Very Busy Earnings Week Kicks Off for Stock Market

Major earnings reports are coming out this week that should keep the stock market quite active, including reports from Apple and Microsoft.

Very Busy Earnings Week Kicks Off for Stock Market

The US stock market has begun one of its busiest weeks for earnings, with Monday’s closing bell leaving the market with slight increases from two market indices.

US stocks should be very active this week.

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite both closed marginally higher by the end of trading on Monday, with increases of 0.08% and 0.07% respectively. The Dow Jones dipped by 0.12% as the market stayed mostly flat with the previous day.

We will see reports this week from Apple, Meta Platforms, Amazon, and Microsoft. While tech companies have dominated the market this year, their presence has diminished in the last couple of weeks for broader market investments.

It’s not just tech companies issuing their reports this week though. We will also see reports from Pfizer and Procter & Gamble. P&G stock ticked slightly higher yesterday ahead of the earnings report but is dropping now in premarket trading for Tuesday.  Pfizer stock grew by 1.07% this morning in premarket trading as it released a positive earnings report on Monday that exceeded expectations. We should continue to see movement from this stock as the earnings report is processed.

Continued Fallout from CrowdStrike Outage

Several major stocks may be impacted this week by the recent CrowdStrike update that knocked out Microsoft 365. The damage is still being felt by Delta Airlines, which filed for damages from both Microsoft and CrowdStrike. Many airlines had to scramble to reschedule their passengers during the outage, losing millions of dollars in revenue and grounding many of their flights. Delta estimates that they lost $350-$500 million in the outage.

Microsoft stock is charting slightly lower recently but not dramatically lower. We may see more fallout from the outage in the coming weeks as figures are pulled together and businesses try to figure out how to move forward. Many of them will have to decide whether they want to lash out at Microsoft and CrowdStrike or not. If even one of the suits against these companies is successful, that will open the door for many more to follow.
