NVIDIA remains the dominant player in AI training/inference hardware, while AMD continues to pressure Intel in both server (EPYC) and client desktop markets. Investors are concerned about Intel’s ability to capture high-margin AI market share quickly enough to justify its elevated fab investments.
The pullback isn’t entirely company-specific. Broad semiconductor ETFs (like SOXX) have faced selling pressure as investors scrutinize the overall return on investment for massive corporate AI infrastructure budgets.
INTC briefly spiked past $100–$110 on initial earnings excitement before profit-taking set in, wiping out post-market gains and bringing shares down to the $90 support area.
In addtion, Intel identified the issue as elevated operating voltage driven by a microcode algorithm error, alongside an earlier oxidation manufacturing flaw on select early 13th-Gen batches. Over time, excessive voltage caused permanent physical degradation (Vmin Shift) in the CPU cores. Primarily 13th and 14th Gen Desktop Processors (Raptor Lake), especially high-power K-series chips like the i9-13900K, i9-14900K, i7-13700K, and i7-14700K.
Microcode / BIOS Updates: Intel released updated microcode patches to motherboard manufacturers. :Built on newer architectures and process nodes that are completely unaffected by the 13th/14th Gen voltage degradation issue.

Capital Intensity & High CapEx: Building cutting-edge fabs and scaling advanced packaging requires massive capital expenditure, keeping free cash flow under pressure. NVIDIA dominates AI accelerators, while AMD continues to push aggressively in both client and server CPU market share.
Intel’s turnaround relies heavily on executing its multi-node manufacturing roadmap flawlessly. Any yield setbacks or customer delays in foundry adoption would weigh heavily on sentiment. Intel is showing clear operational momentum and early proof that its manufacturing turnaround is taking hold. For long-term investors, the stock’s trajectory hinges on scaling the 18A process node, winning third-party foundry customers, and improving overall gross margins.
