The Weeknd (aka Abel Tesfaye) is the latest celebrity to enter the blockchain space, with the release of a set of NFTs along with Billboard to celebrate his song “Blinding Lights” earning the number one spot on Billboard’s Greatest Songs of All Time Hot 100 chart. The NFT collection consists of seven pieces, including four designs featuring the artist on Billboard’s November 2021 issue’s cover.

The other three pieces in the collection feature trading cards inspired by the music video for the hit song. Each NFT in the collection is signed by The Weeknd and has been created in partnership with Tom Brady’s NFT platform – Autograph, leading NFT marketplace OpenSea, Billboard collaborator Karvin Cheung and collectible cards startup The Infinite.

The auction went live on OpenSea on December 20 and will run till December 23, allowing users to bid on them in Ethereum. The Weeknd’s NFT collection is also available for viewing over Autograph.

The Weeknd had previously joined Autograph’s board of directors to help the platform launch its music vertical. His debut NFTs will be the first initiative of the kind for Autograph as it grows its footprint beyond sports and into the world of entertainment.

According to Cheung, “It’s always been a dream of mine to create trading cards for the music industry, especially cards celebrating some of the world’s most renowned artists. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with Billboard to highlight The Weeknd’s milestone, which will undoubtedly play a role in defining the future of music.”
