Ethereum Holds Above $1,900 as Korea Chip Crash Spares Crypto

Ethereum climbed 1% to $1,899 on Wednesday, holding just below the $1,900 mark that has become a line in the sand for the token’s recovery. That it managed to do so during one of the sharpest equity selloffs of the year says something about how crypto has been trading this week.
South Korea’s benchmark index fell 11% for the second straight day, matching Tuesday’s identical drop for a combined two-day decline that has no historical precedent. SK Hynix, whose earnings showed profit up 557% year on year and still fell short of analyst expectations, lost 17% in a single session. Samsung dropped 12% ahead of its own results. The damage across Asian chip stocks has been severe enough to pull the MSCI Asia Pacific index to its lowest level since mid-April.
Ethereum did not follow. Neither did most of the rest of crypto. XRP added 2%, BNB gained to $567, and Solana held near $73. The only major in the red was Hyperliquid’s HYPE, which slipped 3%.
For ETH specifically, the session’s resilience matters because of where the token sits technically. It has been working its way back from a low near $1,550 in late June and is now knocking on $1,900, a level it has not closed above since early June. Spot Ethereum ETFs have been pulling in consistent inflows over the past two weeks, which has given the recovery a demand story behind it rather than just short covering.
The Fed rate decision later Wednesday is the main event for the rest of the session. A hold is widely expected, with markets pricing just a 15% chance of a hike. For Ethereum, anything that reads as dovish or neutral from the Fed tends to support the case for rate-sensitive risk assets. Core PCE data and second-quarter GDP numbers are also due, and megacap tech earnings continue through the week.
If ETH can close Wednesday above $1,900 with the Fed out of the way, it would be the cleanest technical signal the recovery has produced since the bounce began.
